I think the truly interesting thing about living in the UK is the freedom to move from one country to another. In the States it felt like a chore trying to plan a trip to a different state, let alone a different country. For all the Californians...going to Vegas is not a chore and may feel like you haven't left California. Let's be honest with ourselves...though 5-6 hours away Vegas is in Nevada.

Last weekend, I was sitting in the car with Lynn...when she so casually asked if I wanted to go to Rome for Halloween. I quickly said yes, but continued throughout the day to exclaim...Wow, we're going to Rome and I live in England! I am floored that the flight there and back will cost roughly £40=$80. So the new travel plans for the year will include...Rome for Halloween, Spain for Christmas, Edingburgh for New Year's (we heard they throw the biggest party in Scotland), and Amsterdam for Feb. or Mar of '07. Wheeee!

So here is your weekend update...look for pictures by email
1. Lynn and I traveled into London by tube last Saturday to Clapham. We visited one of her friends who has a first and last name that causes you to same them together during introductions, 'Hi this is John Douglas'...instead of 'Hi this is John.' Lynn's friend Christie is (I believe) a midwestern chick that lived in Cali and attended USC and UCLA. Christie lives in a flatshare with a German guy that owns the place and another chick from Italy. The flat is absolutely gorgeous...very trendy. The living room was filled with plants and had the feel of a rainforest. They even had a rooftop area to sit out and have barbeques. To be real BBQ's are not what Londoners do...they watch futbol/football (soccer) matches and drink or invite other trendy folks over to drink.

2. We later went to an Indian restaurant that will only serve you water as a beverage, which means that any soda or liquor you want...needs to be purchased elsewhere and can be imbibed in the restaurant. Yall remember Seinfeld's episode with the Soup Nazi...that was the vibe of this place. I sat around a table surrounded by people from varying backgrounds and countries. 3 Americans, 3 Brits, 2 New Zealanders (aka Kiwis), 2 Italians, 1 German (wannabe English), and 2 Brazilians. ***Sorry can't get these pics off my cellphone.

3. I met a shero (female hero) in one Italian chick, Valencia. Valencia showed up to dinner wearing a cute brown dress with animal print shoes. When we left, she went to her mo-ped and put on a pair of sweats and a helmet and rode out to the next venue. The chick did not miss a beat...truly a trendy Londoner.

3. Disclaimer...this blog is not about the sexual adventures of Lynn, she just happens to do too much. Lynn hooked with the German guy (Stephan) and let us just say that she pulled a disappearing act in the pub/club (Medicine Man) we went to. Lynn has determined that she is a bit interested in Mr. German guy and will continue to canoodle with him. She also met another guy that night with the same name as Mr. German guy (aka Stephan), that would not leave her alone, even after seeing her with Mr. German guy. I as usual played match maker for Valencia...turned out the guy was married. Bummer.

4. Jackie!!!! I had sushi at a very cute restaurant. The tables were low to the ground and your feet hung underneath the table into a hole. Okay...please remember the little things in life bring me joy.

Romantic Update:
I have been spending time with Big D. and have nothing to report, other than his company has been laid back. He is still reserved. British men...

British words learned:
1. dummy- a child's pacifier
2. slag- a loose woman
3. trainers- tennis shoes or sneakers

This weekend... driving into London. Do you know that you have to pay a £8 congestion fee to drive into London. Also, there is a belief (among british folks) that England restricts the number of people that drive by making it unbelieveably hard to pass the driving test. Think...3 point turns on the slope of a hill on a small street.
